Damas Hospital emergency room is one of the areas with the most activity at our institution. We provide emergency services to adults, children and young people. We offer a relaxed waiting area with medical specialists in emergencies 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

 

We feature areas of: Screening, Surgery, GYN, X-rays, Intensive Care, Intermediate Admission, Registration and First Aid. Our cardiac monitors are connected to our Nursing Department, offering a 24/7 surveillance station.

 

You will always find an Emergency Room Specialist on duty (24/7). Also available is a Pediatrician thru the night, 4:00 pm until 12:00 midnight, seven days a week. We have our specialists on call such as: Surgery, GYN, Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. They’re assisted by a talented group of graduated nurses that are qualified and trained in management of medical emergencies, with the highest standards of excellence and respect for the dignity of the patient, framed in our Christian philosophy. We also offer the following services:

 

  • Clinical Laboratory (24/7)

  • Radiology, Sonography (24/7)

  • The most advanced technology of CT Scan (128 "slices", the only one on the market certified by the FDA as low in radiation)

  • Seats for patients requiring respiratory therapy

  • Private cubicle for an OB GYN exam

  • Neonatal Cover of Care (NICU) and Intensive Pediatric (PICU) (24/7)

  • On Call specialists:

    • Surgeons

    • Pediatricians

    • Gynecologists

    • Internists

 

Our efforts and dedication allows us to meet all of our patients expectations in the services needed for any type of condition, reestablishing our patient’s health as soon as possible.

Our Emergency Room has 24/7 security and its own exclusive entrance for ambulances.

 

 

When to go to the emergency room?

 

Adults

 

Not all diseases or conditions require a visit to the emergency room. However, you must go if you feel any of these symptoms:

 

  • Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath

  • Pain or pressure in the chest or upper abdominal

  • Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness

  • Vision disorders

  • Confusion or mental state disorders

  • Any sudden or severe pain

  • Uncontrolled hemorrhage or bleeding

  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea

  • Coughing or vomiting blood

  • Feelings, suicidal or homicidal

  • Difficulty talking

  • Unusual headache

  • Unusual abdominal pain

 

 

If you decide to go to the emergency room:

 

 

Remember to bring a list of medications that you are using, so the Emergenciologist can identify any undesirable reaction.  Also, be sure to indicate if you are allergic to any medication.

 

Children

 

Some symptoms that are not dangerous for adults can be for children. You must take them to the Emergency Room if you identify the following:

 

  • The child is vomiting, has diarrhea; complains of dry mouth; Cannot cry or urinate, this may be a sign that he/she is dehydrated.

  • If you’re child is less than three months and has a fever of 101 degrees F.

  • If your child has difficulty breathing.

  • If he/she has a fever and is hard to wake him up or keep him awake.
